Gabriela Zuarez
Choreographer and dramaturge

Gabriela Zuarez has done her studies in dance at the National Academy for Dance ‘Maria Ruanova’ in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she specialized in the didactique of dance improvisation and composition. At the same time she studied ballet and modern dance techniques. Doing this, she followed Theatre studies at the Dance Theatre School in Buenos Aires with Silvia Vladimisky and Salo Pasik. In 1994 she joined the dance theatre group ‘Teatro Fantàstico de Buenos Aires’ where Vladimisky and Pasik were the artistic directors. Here she broadened her insights in theatre dance.
She was invited by the European Dance Development in Arnhem, The Netherlands to study New Dance, choreography and performance. Thereafter she got a scholarship from de Fonds voor de Podium Kunsten to follow 'Physical Theatre' studies with the German master Angie Hiesl, following after studies in dance composition and dance methodologies for Modern dance and Ballet.
In 2001 She founded, in cooperation with Jorge Albert, the ‘El Sur Mundo Project- Performing Arts'. The cultural expression of this dancetheatre initiative belongs from this interaction of dance, theatre and other cultural forms as tango, as source of inspiration for theatricality and dramaturgy.
In 2006 she became a member of the International Dance Council – UNESCO.
Sinds 2007, she is working, in cooperation with the community of Amersfoort, Utrecht on new development projects for dance theatre and culture.
Her last works: 'Human Landscapes II' and 'La Interna-Trio'and Site Guys.
Parallel to her artistic production she works as teacher in modern dance theatre and Physical theatre for art academies and cultural organizations in Holland.
In her work-mode she approaches the creative research and interdisciplinary as bases for production. In her work, she rather perform at non traditional spaces, locations or try to implement a different spatial perspectives. She has an anthropological vision regarding the cultural aspect in the body and the movement of the performers. The strongest characteristics of her work are: spaciality, technical integration and emotion as movement's source.
